A SAM.gov alternative that also matches tenders outside the US

SAM.gov is the official, free place to search US federal contract opportunities, and no business should pay to replace it. What small businesses actually search for when they type "SAM.gov alternative" is usually one of two things: a search that understands what their business does instead of only literal keywords, or coverage past US federal work. This page checks both against what SAM.gov itself says it does, not against a third-party review site.

What SAM.gov Contract Opportunities actually is

SAM.gov's own Contract Opportunities page says anyone can search contract opportunities without an account; creating a free account only adds saved searches and the ability to follow a specific notice for changes. Search works by keyword plus filters the buyer applied to the notice, including NAICS code, PSC (product/service code), notice type, set-aside eligibility and place of performance.

That is a genuinely useful, genuinely free, official system. It is also, by design, a single country's federal layer: it does not carry EU, UK, Canadian or World Bank notices, and it does not score how well a given notice fits a specific company.

Why people look for an alternative anyway

The keyword box matches the words a contracting officer typed, not the idea behind them: a search for "IT support" can miss a notice filed as "help desk operations" or "information technology managed services" unless you also know and filter by the right NAICS code. SAM.gov's own guidance is to filter by NAICS or PSC first and treat keywords as a second pass, which assumes a searcher already knows the right code for their own work.

Past that, SAM.gov has no fit score, no reason-for-match explanation, no bid/no-bid check, and no draft response builder. A saved search sends an email when something matches the saved keywords and filters; it does not say why a notice is or is not a good use of your time, and it only ever covers the US federal layer SAM.gov itself was built for.

What Bidstage adds on top of the same official feed

Bidstage reads the same SAM.gov Contract Opportunities feed, plus TED (the EU's tender database), the UK's Find a Tender and Contracts Finder, CanadaBuys and World Bank procurement notices, every day. Instead of a keyword box, it reads a company's own website once, writes a capability profile the owner confirms, and scores every open tender against that profile on meaning, keywords, classification codes and practical fit, showing the reasons for each match.

Paid plans add a bid/no-bid check with quoted reasons, AI-drafted first responses (cover letter, understanding of the requirement, approach, compliance checklist), a pipeline board and deadline calendar. Every notice still links back to its official SAM.gov (or TED, Find a Tender, CanadaBuys) listing, so nothing here replaces checking the source before you bid.

Questions

Is SAM.gov free?

Yes. SAM.gov's own Contract Opportunities page confirms anyone can search without an account; an account only adds saved searches and following a notice for changes.

Does Bidstage replace SAM.gov?

No, and it should not. Bidstage reads the same SAM.gov feed and still links every match back to the official SAM.gov notice. What it changes is how you find the match: an AI-scored profile instead of a keyword box, plus EU, UK, Canadian and World Bank notices SAM.gov does not carry.

Can I search for free the way I do on SAM.gov?

Yes. Bidstage's homepage search and the free weekly keyword alert need no account and no card, the same as SAM.gov's own search. The paid plans add the AI capability profile, fit scores, bid/no-bid check and draft responses.
